The annual St. Johns Mint Festival is held the second weekend of August each year and provides the entire family with an action packed weekend. Held at the city park and county fairgrounds, over 75,000 people attend activities of the festival such as arts and crafts, flea market, antiques and collectibles, softball, basketball and tennis tournaments, tractor pulls, and children's activities. There is also free daily entertainment, a Mint Queen Pageant and mint information and foods. The festival begins Friday afternoon, and then kicks into high gear with the Grand Mint Parade on Saturday. Over 150 entries are highlighted in the parade. Don't forget to get your bowl of Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream at the festival!
DeWitt annually hosts their De Witt Ox Roast in August in the central business district, along the tree-lined streets. The DeWitt Ox Roast is the longest continuallyheld event of its kind in the State of Michigan. Weekend activities include free daily entertainment, bingo, arts and crafts, their famous ox burgers, carnival and parade.
Ovid is home to Ovid Carriage Days the third weekend each September. Festival activities include village wide garage sales, amusement rides, pet show, teen dance, arts and crafts, parade, impersonator night, and basketball and fishing contests.
Elsie holds their annual Elsie Dairy Days, in honor of the Dairy industry in July. Along with draft horse pulls, carnival, arts and crafts and parade, they also have kiddie pulls and kiddie parade, stage entertainment and the dairy dash.
The Chamber of Commerce and area businesses have a chilling good time with "An Event So Good It's Scary" on Halloween each year. During specific hours of the daylight hours, young children can trick-or-treat at participating businesses.
The St. Johns Downtown Principal Shopping District presents the annual Santa Parade in St. Johns each year. Santa arrives in style during a lighted parade that's a real crowd pleaser. After receiving the key to the city, Santa visits and has pictures taken with children.
During the second weekend of October every year, St. Johns turns Orange. The Orange glow comes from the Pumpkin Festival", located at Andy T's Farm Market. Those that visit the "Pumpkin Patch" will be delighted and amazed at the creative imaginations of our community youth. Downtown hosts their annual Classic Car Show and Scarecrows line the downtown streets.
